Hickory Inn

In the March issue of Milwaukee magazine magazine they had a feature article on places that chefs like to eat at. This place was included. As I love Jamaican food, I meandered down to try this place out. As you enter, the place looks like a corner bar with the menu written on a whiteboard behind the bar. The employees are all very friendly and welcoming. As I ordered the meal (I wanted takeout, but they do have ample seating), I was told it would take about 15 minutes. As I waited, the phone NEVER stopped ringing with people putting in orders. When I got home I dined on some of the best Jamaican food I have ever had. The curried goat was good, but the oxtail stew was out of this world!!!! Cabbage and plantains were also fantastic!!!It was served with some of the most flavorful rice that I have ever had!!!!!! And yes, I will definitely be back!!!

Delicious and authentic Caribbean food. We dined on jerk chicken and pork, brown stew chicken, curry goat. The sides of rice and beans were very tasty, as were the plantains. The portions were large and a meal could be easily shared. The rum punch had quite the kick. We felt like were in Jamaica with the decor and super friendly service. The beef patty was amazing! Nothing fancy, just excellent Jamaican food. I've attached our receipt, the bill was $85 for four of us, with cocktails. We will be back!

Update October 25, 2021 Again a scrumptious lunch. Oxtail, jerk chicken and yes the plantains...5 stars August 2, 2021 We traveled from Ozaukee County and it was all worth it. Awesome food I had oxtail dinner with rice, cabbage and a side of plantains. The Best I've had in Wisconsin . We also had jerk chicken and egg rolls.....don't judge this foodie😀. Everything was great. Oh try the Ginger beer and thr Rum punch as well. Great owners. We'll be back!

Another Update on 10-27-2020. I’ve always love curry shrimp, island jam serves it on Tuesday’s. Finally got me some (b/c they be sold out). It was so delicious, I love the spices. I want someone to teach me how to make Jamaican food dishes. I love learning to cook different foods from different cultures. UPPA YARD WAS my go to for my Jamaican food. Pepper Pot was my spot for the egg rolls. ISLAND JAM FOOD TASTE SO AUTHENTIC & DELICIOUS. I can’t wait to visit Jamaica one day. I can’t wait to smoke that good green and try the food *wink*.. Island Jam sells liquor, (only Jamaican restaurant that does that); they have this island punch, OMG it’s delicious. It’s stronger then a margarita (that’s made right). Go try their food! You would not be disappointed!! Update: I went back Saturday October 17, 20202. I got the jerk/curry chicken and cabbage. It was delicious. See review below, when I visit a week ago. I always use to go to UPPA YARD, but their food is way better and taste so fresh! I had to give it 5 stars. I’m going back to try the fish and goat.. Never had that type of Jamaican food before!! Every Time I eat Jamaican 🇯🇲 food 🍲 ; it’s always curry/jerk chicken and egg 🥚 rolls .. this was my first time trying oxtails and brown stew chicken 🍗. I came to Island 🏝 Jam Restaurant, because of the reviews. I’m a nerd, I blog, I’m a movie 🎥, and book 📚 frantic ... The oxtails/brown stew chicken was tender and delicious 😋. I enjoy the seasoning and flavor . I am going back to try their curry/jerk chicken and the curry shrimp 🍤. I’ve always went to UPPA YARD OR IRELAND JAMAICAN RESTAURANTS located in Milwaukee, WI. Island Jam is about to be my number #1 spot .. I can’t wait to visit Jamaica 🇯🇲!!

I do not know why this has changed to Hickory Inn. I have never been there. This review is for Island Jam in South Milwaukee. The PICTURE is even Island Jam. Ordered through Grub Hub app and went to pick up at scheduled time. I don't know if they're new to using Grub Hub, but they seem to forget to check it. We had to wait an additional 30 minutes when we got there because they didn't know they had the order. But the food is amazing. I never had goat so I gave it a try (the pandemic has been all about trying new foods). Incredible! It's a small steamy kitchen in the back of a dive bar. I highly recommend. But call your order in so you know a person received it.

Staff wasn't really friendly and appeared almost bothered that i went in. There was no other customer when i was there (ordered to go). Food was delicious and the portion was well worth the money. Definitely recommend anyone who would like to try some good jerk chicken. Very delicious. My total bill was around 12 dollars and change. NOTE: they had a sign on their door stating June 25th they will be closing due to relocating the restaurant. Staff did not know where the new restaurant site will be.
